Welcome to smart clothing (e-textiles)

Employee identification badges are easy to forget, easy to lose, and easy to lend to a colleague in a rush, and each of these everyday lapses quietly exposes companies to real security and compliance risk. A misplaced badge can end up in the wrong hands, a borrowed badge breaks the link between identity and accountability, and neither failure is unusual in a typical workday. The solution is to stop relying on objects that can be detached, forgotten, or handed off, and instead move identity verification onto something employees are already wearing every day: their work clothing itself. By embedding identification technology directly into garments, the credential becomes inseparable from the person, eliminating the everyday vulnerabilities of cards and fobs.

Two complementary technologies make this possible depending on the use case. NFC (Near Field Communication) enables secure, deliberate short-range verification through a simple tap of a smartphone, ideal for authentication and identity checks. UHF RFID (Ultra-High Frequency Radio Frequency Identification) extends that reach to several meters, enabling hands-free, automatic recognition as an employee simply walks through a doorway or checkpoint.

Together, these two ranges give organizations the flexibility to choose exactly the level of interaction they need, all built into the clothing their people already wear.
